How to secure a mobile Money account from hackers in Cameroon.

Many mobile Money users have complained of their accounts being hacked by fraudsters in Cameroon. A recent case is that of my brother, who almost lost 800000FCFA.

This is why I am writing this article to let you know how hackers hack mobile Money accounts and how to secure your Mobile Money account.

How hackers hack Mobile money account in Cameroon

1. Calling to ask for pin reset.

2. Sending money to your account and withdrawing more.

1, Calling to ask for your PIN reset. A random number can call you pretending to be from MTN or Orange, the person will ask you to reset your PIN by entering your old PIN.

Before the call, the person had initiated a withdrawal from your Account. as you enter your PIN number, you are indirectly confirming the withdrawal the person requested.

2, Sending money to your account and withdrawing more: This is a new trick they use. They usually send an amount that looks similar. 

For example, the person can send you 5000FCFA, call you immediately and complain, then initiate a withdrawal of 50000FCFA and ask you to confirm. As you confirm, the difference is 45000frs.

How to secure a mobile Money account from hackers in Cameroon

1, Never share your PIN with anyone: 

MTN and Orange have made it clear that none of their staff will ever call to ask for PIN reset. So if you receive any of such calls, hang on.

2, Check every transaction before confirming with your PIN: To validate any Momo transaction with your PIN, check the amount and Phone number well.

3, Call Network provider immediately and report any wrong transaction. If you have done or confirm any wrong transaction, Call MTN  or Orange customer service care promptly and report. They will temporarily block the number that has the money inside.

Wrapping up

Hackers can only withdraw money from your mobile Money account when you have ignorantly confirmed the transaction.

There's no other magic that someone can use to enter your account automatically.

This is why I write to let you know how they do and how to secure your Mobile money account.
